Happy Halloween

wooowooowooowoowoowoowooowooowooowoowoowoowooowooowooowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoo

Am so glad that my taste bud are back as it's a feast tonight at Chia Heng Restaurant (the old shop houses behind Hock Lee Centre).
We were the only diners there, getting 2 tables. Weird le bcoz their food quality is quite good. But it's better like this, the waiters will only concentrated on making us happy, like cup are always full with tea, plate were change 3 times etc. Hubby bein notty & gav Esther the banned liquid when no 1 was paying attention.Let me show you some of the dish that I enjoyed very much... The famous Oo Chien (Fried Oyster), just look at the size of those fresh oysters...ah... Tu Kah (Pork Leg) with vege, i likey bcoz the pork meat don't hav "urine" smell like other places... the pau kiap pork skin with sauce, combo nyaman!! See the crab meat!! Not the fake crab meat stick, it's the real deal le... together with vege & other stuff, I only vividly remember the crab nia...Chicken fried with blue ginger & "Gyo Hiang", rolled minced meat with spices were tasty too.

The fired rice looks very appetizing but it was tasteless. The sweet & sour fish were not up to standard or I'm already too full to judge anymore... The happy couple after the satisfying meal.
Overall it was a nice dinner. Recommended dish are the "Oo Chien" & "Tu Kah". Even after the dinner, every1 were so comfortable that we just continue to chit chat on until closing time bcoz the whole place belong to us only.

Something Different

For my BoldBoss birthday this year, I wanna do something special for him as he will be stepping into the world of the BIG 3-0... finally...

At the back of my mind, I've always been interested in the HfH (Habitat for Humanity) build that Calvin & SexyLips took part on Merdeka Day. Sure it's a TIRING workout but nevertheless a great experience. I was trying to find out more about the HfH & I found Georgette blog from Calvin's blogroll & stumble upon this post & inspired me to do the same for BoldBoss. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone is my specialty. It would b something different, plus it is towards a worthy cause. I believed that together we can make a difference.

That's how I started... by preparing a collection box & placed it at a strategic place. Noticed my cute BoldBoss face?
I started to e-mail every1 & told them about the HfH, which is an international non-profit NGO devoted to bringing families & communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing for the poor (I cut & paste from Calvin's post hahahah).

The response was GREAT! Don't underestimate these coins... a total of RM95 were from coins alone.I kinda BUG my colleagues e.v.e.r.y single day to support this... all my blackmailing & threatening skill was put to good used as a total of RM515.83 was collected.

As I did not know how to passed the money to
HfH I left a comment in Georgette blog & told her I would pass the money collected to her. But she suggested that we meet at the HfH office at 2 1/2 mile shop houses (same row as Au Yang Dental Clinic) & give the $$ to them together with her. That's how I ended up at the HfH office on a Friday afternoon, with Calvin as the driver & Terrence as the Bodyguard, don play play le... $500 alot le. BoldBoss did not join as he had to attend a emergency meeting.

All this newspaper clipping on the board at
HfH office & I noticed some of the houses were build in year 2000 (??) wow... and to think I've never heard of them before this.Habitat provided houses for people regardless of race or religion. As a small token of appreciation for all that donated their hard earn $$, I gave out small packet of biscuits or chocolate...
Again, 10 Q for supporting this Fund Raising Drive & made it a success as we manage to exceed the target of RM300 initially set. You all really are a generous & kind bunch of people & I'm glad we r colleague.
The receipt were made out under BoldBoss's name as a gift on his 30th birthday & the money collected will be put into good use.

p/s: ok ok I admit the gift tag were printed in the office lor... but the biscuit & chocolate were MY snacks lying around the house.

Bad Timing

Actually on Monday morning, I was already having slight headache & 1 of my tonsil were swollen. But I just could not resist the durian. By Tuesday, the slight headache has increased the pain scale to 5 & both my tonsils were swollen. I just swallowed 2 panadol & matched on... no choice... But later in the morning I went to see the doctor & he gave me Vit C (??!!) & deflame lozenges.

I think the visit to the doctor make it worst than before. My head started to throbbed in the afternoon after I took the medicine after lunch. By night time, I was like this...
Could not sleep well last night... the nose was blocked... throat itchy itchy...

Today in the office, the headache pain has reach a scale of 7 & the tissue papers were a permanent fixture on my nose.... now my nose is red from all the rubbing... I need this...
The worst is my mum courrier a care package for me, containing Durian, Langsat, Mangosteen & Rambutan.... but now all my food are tasteless... hai... pai mia ar... How can the timing be so BAD??!!

Liu-lien Liu-lien

I'm craving for liu-lien, badly. I'm daydreaming about sinking my teeth into the liu-lien flesh... cheh! Not preganant lar, just really wanna eat durian. Now that the supply is higher hopefully the price has drop from RM10 each. I was asking around for advice on how to choose a durian. I've never buy a durian on my own.

SexyLips: "Hold the fruit it your hands, make sure you can feel the pain of the prick from the durian torn, make sure it's really a durian."

Me: "Duh"

Then I ask BoldBoss, he reply: "Pick a not too heavy durian and hav durian aroma. Shake it for sound, for moving durian. Durian with a slight sound is the best".

Me: "How to know it's not too heavy?

BoldBoss: "By feel"

Me: "How slight sound is slight?

Bold Boss: "By feel too"

SexyLips & BoldBoss, you both have been a great help... not

QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

MIL bought 2 durian for RM10 & gave us 1, saving me the trouble of goin to buy 1 myself .... te-hee.

After making sure it's really a liu-lien, I started to inspect it:
1. Liu-lien not too heavy according to my feel

2. A slight liu-lian aroma
3. Aiyooooooooo... got worm hole... hav to share share with the worms lor...

Me: "Use the knife lar! How can open like that??!!"
Hubby: "Like this the liu-lien balu 'ho chiak' ma."
Me: "Use cloths la so that fingers don get pricked."
Hubby: "No need. Like this balu ada style."
aiyooooo... really got worms le... bad choice. Sayang le. But luckily still got lotsa more left for me to eat. wow... it tasted reaaaaaaaaly good le. I want moooooooore!!! Here's the close-up of the worms...After the feast, must remember to drink salt water from the durian khak... so that won't get heaty & fall sick.

QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

Some1 emailed this to me as a answer to my Q

Every year, with the coming of the durian season, the air is filled with a heavy 'odoromatous' presence, a kind of incense heralding the arrival of the king of fruits; and the streets are lined with hastily composed pyramidal piles and altars for the King of fruits - the durian.

And every year we are confronted again by the same eternal question of how to choose a good durian.

The first step in choosing a good durian is to grasp the durian that takes your fancy by its stalk and hold it in front of your eyes for close scrutiny. It is advisable while doing this to stand with your legs apart or "kang-kang" as the durian and its stalk may decide, at this very moment, to part company, with disastrous consequences to your foot. If you do not wish to stand in this manner then I would advise you to have safety boots on.

An age old adage says that you cannot judge a book by its cover. But some 'so-called' durian experts claim that they can judge a durian by its thorns, although others say this is nonsense. So why must you look at a durian if you cannot judge a durian by its thorns. It is to look for holes or 'lubangs'.

Durian holes generally fall into four categories:

  1. Squirrel holes -- Durians with squirrel holes are generally ripe and quite tasty as the squirrel who has been at it would gladly testify. However, these durians are considered 'second paw' (second hand) and being minus a few seeds should be purchased only after a generous discount.
  2. Worm holes -- Durians with worm holes have worms and other creepy crawlies in them and should be rejected unless, of course, you are one of those lovers of Swiss Cheese.
  3. Man-made holes -- These are small triangular openings cut into the durian so that the customer could have a sneak preview of the fleshy quality of the durian. Obviously if the durian is still there, it has been rejected. Would you take someone's reject?
  4. Open backside type -- Durians with their bottoms with are gaping or beginning to gape have seen better days - 2 or 3 to be precise - where they have been paraded, manhandled and put back on the shelf, rejected by all and sundry. Leave them in place.

Now, having given the durian the visual test, you can now proceed to the next important step. Take the durian into your hands, with your fingers gripping the spaces between thorns, approximate it next to your ear at the side of your head and shake the fruit. Listen for movement.

Pardon my digression. Now why shake the durian, you ask. Good question! Remember the other old adage - 'empty vessels make the most noise'. This holds true for the durian. If you hear vigorous hollow movements of seeds when you shake the durian - the fruit is all seed and no flesh - reject it. If there is no movement at all on shaking, and the durian feels heavy for its size, the fruit is unripe or if ripe, waterlogged. Reject also. If you detect some faint movement and the fruit feels relatively light for its size - go on to the next step - the ultimate olfactory test.

For this step, hold the durian gently in your hands as you would your loved one and place in front of your nose and inhale deeply. If you find dirt, dust and dried leaves in your nostrils, stop at once, and send the durian back to the vendor for a thorough cleaning.

Having ensured that the durian is clean and that there is no impediment in your nasal passages repeat the inhalation process, with both thumbs and thenar eminence cupped to exclude any extraneous smell. If you detect an over rich, strong, fetid odour, it indicates that the durian is overripe. Reject, especially if the stalk looks somewhat dry.

If you detect no smell at all also reject as the fruit is unripe.

But if you detect a faint aroma of bitter sweet butter scotch and almonds with a bouquet of wild honey and a hint of smoked oak then you have hit the jackpot and found yourlself a durian with a thick, creamy, treacle like, bitter sweet tasting flesh for you to savour and enjoy.

Tea Leaf

It has been a long while since I go jalan x2 at Boulevard Hypermarket, more like since it open last year... hahahah... Parking's a b%$ch & it always look so crowded. But since mum wanna go look see, I took the chance to explore the FOOD section of the Hypermarket... and man... am I glad I went.

Was jumping up & down when we saw this on sale... have been considering about getting a popcorn maker for our entertainment room to make it feel & smell like a cinema kakaka... this can pretty much do it.
Then these Cheese Macaroni was calling out to me....
buy me buy me buy me

Then as the stories goes, it's predictable that I totally lose control & went on a mad food shopping spree, grabbing a total of 21 items, with mum only buying 1 item.
Among those, only 1 item was NOT food but a Akemi Tea Leaf Therapeutic Pillow. Hubby saw this on sale, with 50% discount it only cost RM45.90 (normal price RM91.80).The centre part contained a pack of fiber, that smells of tea leaf...I've been complaining to hubby that he sometimes snore really loud when asleep. I suggested that he change pillow with a better support. The ones that we got from Ikea is not that firm but suit me perfectly. I'm glad he's willing to try a new pillow. Hopefully that can help to achieve my peace & quiet at night. As you can see, a lot of promises on the label of the pillow...Then as I walk out of the Hypermarket, I notice that there were a PWP (purchase with purchase) offered with great bargain. Mum wanted the whistling cattle & Yeo's packet drinks. While I only noticed 1 thing that I want, Famous Amos Cookies (with Chocolate Chips & Pecans). I know I know the stall selling fresh Famous Amos Cookies is just 2 steps away but for me these packet cookies do taste better. I'm weird I know but that's how I feel.
happyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappyhappy

Dinner was at Sweet Happiness Seafood (again??!!) but this time I was the one in charged of ordering the dishes. So I made sure that we tried new dishes. Sometimes it's best to stick with what you know is the best like the Butter Prawn, bcoz the other version of Salted Egg Prawn just sucks donkey ass.

This Chicken Soup in Coconut was awesome, but the chicken meat was rather scarce. But what's important was the SOUP kan?
Well that end my rather uneventful Sunday where I got to laze around and watched House & Supernatural while munching away, and also read a bit while munching away...

I'm sure your weekend was more eventful, and hopefully you had a great time.

Go Plastic-less

I've just realize that my cooking oil had expired since June 08 o_0" yaiks... I did not realize about it until now. I usually used the oil for frying egg only. I think it's a clear indication that it's high time for REAL shopping for REAL food. Ta Kiong here I come!

BoldBoss had advised that Olive Oil is a better choice, as it's healthier. But he din warn me that there are so many choice of OLIVE OIL, Virgin, Extra Virgin, Virgin Light, Virgin Light Taste, Virgin Rich Taste etc... wah... how to choose le... at the end I choose Bertolli, sound very Italian, I likey, EXTRA VIRGIN RICH TASTE RM24.50 (500ml). Quickly search what they stand for once at home.

Extra Virgin:

• Each word has its own definition. The “Extra” part of the term means the olive oil contains less than 1% free fatty acids (primarily Oleic acid).
• The “Virgin” part means the oil was not processed beyond pressing and filtering. Almost all other oils (such as Corn, Canola, Sunflower, Safflower, Cottonseed and Soy) are not palatable as pressed or extracted. They are all refined in some manner.

Now I know why the word EXTRA cost so much more....
Missed the OLD EL Paso's Dip (RM16.60) that taste great with corn chips. I searched high & low for it & thank god I finally found it. Only 1 type of flavor available, Cheese n Salsa...yum yum yummmmyyyy with Chachos Original Chips. I like this drink sooooooooooooooooo much!!Ya know which?Yup, Bundaberg Ginger Beer, but actually NO alcoholic content le.During checked out, I gave the cashier my "I'm not a plastic bag" bag but it was not big enuf.
More appropriately, Go Plastic-less... Next time I'll need to bring more bags. Bought too many items, in total 24. Mostly are fruit juice & junk food, except for the last 4 items for a Sushi Party tomorrow. How about you? Do you support this act of going plastic-less??

I've just started & people do look at me strangely and I was laugh at too. Hubby was saying that in a 3rd world country like us, majority don't really care about the "environment" but I believe bit by bit, together we can hopefully make a difference.

BoldBoss coming of age

Happy Birthday Master YET aka BoldBoss!!!
He's very happy today as he's finally turnedMen are like wine.
Some turn to vinegar, but the best improve with age.
Chocolate Truffle Cake with EXTRA Strawberries, from Hallie again. This cost RM100 coz of extra Chocolate & Strawberries.
If u notice there are 2 candles on the cake, it's because we are celebrating SexyLips Birthday too as he'll be on vacation in HK **jeles** on the actual day, 27th Oct.
Inside every older person is a younger person -
wondering what the hell happened.
Why is a birthday cake the only food you can blow on and spit on and everybody rushes to get a piece? The happy couple cut the cake hand-in-hand together-gather...SexyLips cannot wait to taste the cake ... he has been whining to eat the cake since 4pm.The happy faces of the birthdays boy... Boldboss loved it so much he returned again & again & again for more... The cake was rich with chocolate but surprisingly not sweet. As usual, Hallie's cake does not disappoint. On BoldBoss birthday eve, TrendyBoss, GossipJen, SexyBum, AngelEng, hubby & I "belanja" the birthday boys a dinner treat at Mr. Ho's Fine Food. Ordered the usual 4 must order dish, Warm Bacon & Walnut Salad, Mussels in Chilli Cream Sauce, Alfredo Pasta & Crispy Roast Pork with Apple Sauce.

We tried the Family Sampler RM 68.90, came with Crispy Roast Pork, Pork knuckles, BBQ Pork Ribs, Grilled Chicken and Beef & Chicken Bratwurst (6 varieties).
SexyLips ordered the Bratwurst Plate that came with 4 types of Bratwurst, RM30.90
TrendyBoss ordered mixed grilled & he was happy with his choice. Sexybum ordered the Asian Pesto & shared among those that have not tried it. I opted to skip on that one. AngelEng ordered the Special Pork Chop RM22.90 that came with creamy cheese... yummy. I ordered the BBQ Pork Ribs RM24.90 which I din know came in the Family Sampler too. It was a waste as we did not managed to finish all the dishes.

All in all we spend RM220 for 8 pax, a reasonable price. Could have save MORE if didn't order the extra Pork Roast & Pork Ribs & Bratwusrt Plate as it's all in the Family Sampler. Next time with such a crowd, just order the Family Sampler, there are 2 size available, Small RM68.90 & Big RM100++ (I forgot) which will be just nice & no need to order other dishes. Just get the Salad, Pasta & Mussels as side dishes. Ah... PERFECT!!

A message for Boldboss:
The only time you really live fully is from thirty to sixty. The young are slaves to dreams; the old servants of regrets. Only the middle-aged have all their five senses in the keeping of their wits.
May you live all the days of your life.
Happy Birthday!!!
