HK Day 4: Victoria Peaks (Jan'08)

From the MRT, we walked through a plaza where one day a week, thousands of Philippino maids (amah) allegedly gather to bask on towels laid out on the concrete with boxes & umbrella as barrier. Their routine emergent social event has been written up and photographed a lot, but I always doubt it as being over exaggerated or "Kua Cang". But oh my... if I did not see it with my own eyes, I would never believe that the numbers of people who attend this gathering are STAGGERING.
Since HK is set into a mountain range, leading down to the harbor, the people need a means of pedestrian travel that will take them up and down the mountain. The HK Gobamen are very clever, they built long, interconnected series of escalators that stretch for miles. Me, especially my feet was SO relieved seeing all those "Outdoor Escalators", worming up the side of the mountain through crowded terraces where shops are squeezed together with an amazing density -- it was very odd, but cool.

It's hard to get LOST in HK with clear sign every where. Hubby pointing the way to PEAK TRAM:
Me, but so was every1, amused that the tram travels up the mountain at something like a 45 degree angle. The tram slowly climbs up the mountain, while seated lean backward at an insane tilt. This is hard to put into words -- along with the view of downtown HK from the Kowloon side of the harbor, this constituted one of greatest views I've ever seen. The TRAM (left) & PEAK Tower (right):View from the TOP, across the sea is Kowloon:Highlight of the day, admiring works of Madamme Tussaud's:
