F0rbidd3n K1ngd0m

this post was written 18 May 08 but did not post it up... here goes...

I was so excited to be watching the The F0rbidden Kingd0m, as it mark the 1st evar on-screen team-up of the century, J@ckie Ch@n & Jet L1 (2 of the legend Ku Fung Master).
It started fairly well with J@ckie Ch@n as the old man who opens a pawnshop selling pirated kungfu DVDs ... but when J@ckie Ch@n (omg why is he in those ridiculous dreadlock wig) appears as the drunken beggar opened his mouth and spoke Ingland, my ears bled. While Jet L1 plays The M0nkey King, he was hardly recognizable under a thick layer of gold paint, glued-on fur and a cheeky persona that involves a lot of giggling and NO dialogs. Jet L1's portrayal of The M0nkey King was awesome. The monk in white (also played by Jet L1) appeared out of nowhere moments before the fight against J@ckie Ch@n. That's the only fight scene in the entire movie worth watching, but in the end in was a truce !%$# wat the $%*^& I expected one of them to beat the crap out of the other, but no, they became friends. That's what u get by putting 2 Kung-Fu Master together in a movie.Jet L1 was quiet throughout the match, and then suddenly he opened his mouth at the end of the fight & all hell broke loose... I temporarily went insane, bcoz all the "smelly" word automatic came out... He should have played SILENT MONK. wa lau eh... His Ingland dang power I tell u. Most of the time I catch NO ball what the heck he was saying, si peh chim. Thank God for the subtitles. When the talking stops and the punching begins,
both actors shine brightly.

I would rate this movie at 6.5/10. It can be an entertaining movie if you don’t look too much into the details. This is a "so-called" kung fu film through Disney-tinted glasses (Jet L1 wants his 2 children to b able to watch so NO violence scene at all), thrilling and dynamic, yet ultimately shallow and unsubstantial . The story line was so predictable it got a bit boring sometimes.
