Takoyaki & Okonomiyaki

It's the 1st stall in Kuching selling Takoyaki. It's located at Sin Wan, Jln S0ng. Look for the poster of the cute BIG Squid... last time the poster background was red in color, now it's yellow in color... Takoyaki, it's a round dough ball stuffed with either octopus, ham and cheese or any other stuffings that the stall offers. The balls are then grilled toasted (haha actually, I don't know how to call this cooking method) in an iron pan and turned around constantly so that the ball is nicely browned and crisp. Slightly bigger than the size of a ping-pong ball. Then top it with some bonito flakes (brownish thing) and a little sauce before serving it piping hot.The ham and cheese one had more of a taste to it, and was delightfully cheesy! Takoyaki might taste weird at 1st. But once you get used to it, it’s quite yummylicious… I <3 Takoyaki for the heavily laden Japanese mayo on fresh hot tako balls and yummy smoked fish flakes (bonito) that were sprinkled on top. All for only ~RM4.xx.

Does the real Takoyaki tastes like this? Actually I did not see any on sale while I was in Japan ... so I’m not sure. Wait till I visit Japan again & look for it.

Another dish you can try is the
Okonomiyaki, a Japanese dish consisting of a pan-fried batter cake and various ingredients. Okonomi means "what you like" or "what you want", and yaki means "grilled" or "cooked".
Okonomiyaki is prepared much like a pancake. The batter and other ingredients (got prawn, ham, carrot, cabbage & onion, I think, but I'm not so sure if that's all) are fried on both sides on a hot plate (teppan) using metal spatulas that are later used to slice the dish when it has finished cooking.
Cooked Okonomiyaki is topped with ingredients that include Okonomiyaki sauce, fish flakes, Japanese mayo & green onions. It cost ~RM5.XX only. With such low cost, please do not compare it with other establishment that charge u 3 times more. Suitable for a simple diner or supper. to temp u even more (evil grin):
Oyishi!!!
